BELIEVE IN YOUR DREAMS …

Finally after being a stage mom, staging a mom or whatever you may call the odd jobs I’ve been through these past few days in preparation for my son’s recital they finally they did it with a loud applause. That was a relief; I’ll be coming up with a separate story for that.

Meantime, along with my stint here and there last week searching for their costume accessory the personal shopper got tired and hungry. I'm used to eating alone with a newspaper or book on the side as my companion. From the photo you could tell, I ate ‘mami’ along sighs and shrugs reading so depressing news, I read this man’s shirt that lifted my spirit, evidently he did not know I was taking a picture of his back or I don’t know what his reaction will be.

If it won’t get some awakenings on your mind reading, then …. ‘bahala ka, basta’ I know the future belongs to me because I believe in the beauty of my dreams….. (With conviction!)

Thanks for dropping by on this side of town.

EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES ONLINE

It’s almost classes’ time and I’m already on cram preparing for the subject loads assigned to me. I was expecting same subject loads as last year but the Dean decided to give me new subjects that, Oh no, out of my line. I was thinking of refusing the offer, but when I saw the list of the students under this subject, I said I’ll take it. I love this batch of teens; they are so responsive and very much willing to learn.

So without much blabber at the Dean’s office I silently sneak out and headed to the library, as expected my visit was such a disappointment, no books, very few references for this subject. Although our school is among those with good standing in the region, it can’t be denied that there is still that very wide void when it comes to facilities. But nonetheless, that is why Filipino teachers are in demand abroad because Filipino teachers can do more under unfavorable condition.

Given this situation, what can I do but rely of what is available at hand, the internet is a very potent resource to fill-in this gap, I’ve been scouting for a lot of teaching resources online, subscribing to various education-related newsletters, countless pdf search engine online, which has been a very great help to my handled subjects. Although at some point I still need to verify those information, thing is they really help.

There is so much to be done with Philippine educational system; I just hope the incoming administration will find it in his heart to take heed to the need of the people who powers this institution.

Thanks for reading and for dropping by on this side of town.

GETTING RID OF FLEAS

As the whole country is back to receiving its regular flow of electricity, not in Davao City, we are still experiencing rotational brown-out about 2 and sometimes 3 hours a day, that’s why when I have the time I made all my posts one time big time. Not to mention the super hot weather that added to everyone’s twitchy mode, thus frozen delights are really a thing around here when the electric fans stopped to turn.

Just like humans dogs also had to find a way to cool down themselves, we have quite a number of dogs in our compound, we live in 700 sq. m. compound and as a consequence we house seven dogs to help us with our security, obviously the task of feeding these buddies is not assigned to us or we will end up living below poverty line. But the thing is, they love to curl and play below our staircase, even if they are being bathe everyday they still have springing fleas that often bite especially my youngest boy that on brown-outs ran around in eternally shirtless body.

I’m hesitant to spray insect killing stuff even if its water based because of the stinking smell, and moreso I just can’t get rid of those dogs because our aunt neighbor is so protective of her flea-infested pets that annoys me to the max. So there, still has to find some control measures to get rid of these itchy-biting bugs.

THE FUTURE OF CARABAO

I was telling my son, maybe in a not so distant future, you will then be seeing carabaos in resin and not moving… like these two … hope not.

The carabao (Filipino: kalabaw; Malay: kerbau) or Bubalus bubalis carabanesis is a domesticated subspecies of the water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) found in the Philippines, Guam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and various parts of Southeast Asia. Carabaos are associated with farmers, being the farm animal of choice for pulling both a plow and the cart used to haul produce to the market (courtesy of www.wikipedia.org)

THE TALE OF A BURNT TOASTER

We had this oven toaster as a wedding gift 11 years ago, it’s a Kyowa KW 318, and by the looks of it you could tell this baby has served its bosses well. But this cooking gadget of ours also has made me jump out of the bed the other day.

I was taking an afternoon nap, when my eldest shouted to his lungs delight, fire in the house! From his voice I can tell he was not joking, dizzy me jump out of the bed and headed to the kitchen, true enough this toaster was burning. I immediately take the rubber potholder and pulled out the plug. Gosh, he got me there, a mom’s mouth started to blabber while putting the fire off, along with a burnt hotdog.

Investigation showed that he just put the hotdog on the grill without the pan, so the oily drippings of the hotdog caught a fire and eventually blow it out of the toaster. It’s not the first time he has used this cooking tool, some negligence caused it to, and a sleeping tired mom, blamed herself for teaching independence.

Anyway, I’m considering of buying a new one and I’m scouting some information of what is latest and bears quality, where else but the internet and eventually stumble on this blog that offers ratings of digital toaster ovens you can get online. Looking at the quality of the cooking gadget you will be buying is a major factor to consider especially having children at home, of course other the most important thing which during that day slip out of my sleepy mind, supervision.

SUMMER SCHOOL IS ALSMOST OVER ...

... Yeah, we’re finally down to the last four days of waiting for my son’s summer dance recital, I’m dead sick already hearing loud music every morning until evening, and on top of everything the theatre school recital fee is killing me, but I’m taking a friend’s advise not to mind about the fee but think of what this performance can do to heighten a child’s confidence, OK, you got me there.

A child learning special skills is a universal trend, although parents play the most important role in the process, 21st century society provides a setting of specialization, children can choose whatever field of skill specialization they prefer and inclined into.

All over the world, great schools in the field of arts, music and the like offer the most comprehensive programs to cater to every child’s needs, there is Summer school London that offers a well-rounded and wide-ranging academic and extra-academic programs that will shape every child into a most productive, creative and good individuals of the future society. How I wish there are Skola Schools also around our area, at least my children can try having educated with this institution. For the time being, I’ll settle for what’s around here.

Thanks for dropping by on this side of town.

NEED TO GO SOME PLACE ….

… peaceful and quite. People around here pissed me off. It’s really hard living with an in-law, but what can I do? I want to refresh, travel to some place calm and tranquil, love to see Batanes, I adore this place, and this is one of my penultimate wishes to confront South China Sea, yelling to this mysterious beyond, what the heavens happen? I did everything I’m supposed to do. But on the side, biting a pen scribbling my thoughts, write a book and just lie down on a hilly patch doing nothing, staring blankly unto the cloudless periwinkle sky. Yeah, in my dreams, LOL.

S …. Is for SUGBA

Sugba is a ‘bisaya’ (Davao’s native tongue) term for grill, sinugba, if it is a done thing, gi-sugba, if it is still on the process of grilling, i-sugba if you are still planning to grill it. And if you’re angry, you may say…. I-sugba taka, meaning you still have time to run away … LOL, just me and my morbid thinking.

Ja! We had this last night, my kids love this fish, since it has sparse bones and it’s not hard to ‘himay’ unlike the milkfish, where if you’re not careful enough you’ll end up looking for breach birthed fellas, eat banana or have a cat’s paw run down your neck.

We call this fish locally, barilison, we often have a fresh supply of these unlucky fellas usually from adjacent Samal Island.

So there making this post my entry to ABC Wednesday, for more great photos, SEE HERE.

Thanks for dropping by on this side of town.

HOW TO GET YOUR EX BACK

I don’t think this stuff should be shared here, but me and my itchy fingers can’t help it but type this story.

When I came home from running an errand the other day, I was surprise to see a quorum of my husband’s cousins around our dining area, one of them was profusely sobbing and I asked what happened? The sister then said, Oh, her long time boyfriend eloped with another woman… I jokingly said, is eloping still a fashion these days? Ate, please do not add insult to injury, were there responses…. Being the oldest among them, they’re waiting on what I have to say… Come-on crying won’t solve your problem but will lessen your heart’s burden, so cry it out loud, and we’ll talk after eating. Impatient young people keep bugging me, what they’re supposed to do?

Out of the blue I said, you should learn from Ally McBeal, I followed this series from beginning to end, If you want to get your ex back, or end up with Mr. Right, you’ve got to make it happen. The best men are always taken, if you don’t steal them, you won’t have them. So plan your move and do it soon.

It might be too harsh but seeing at their situation seems like they’re at the dead end, so I thought they need some radical moves to keep it going, and the latest update, they’re talking.

WEEKEND ANIMAL ENCOUNTER

I’m no rich momma I can’t afford a family weekend at Disneyland, but I need to take the children out somewhere, so hubby and I decided to watch a weekend animal encounter show at Malagos Garden Resort here.

Malagos is just a 45-minute ride from the city, since it was Sunday, no hassles on the road. The show started 10:30 AM and it lasted about 30 minutes. At first the kids were enjoying seeing Bianca the albino carabao, Troy the ostrich but later got bored, and eventually disappointed since some of the animals, especially the birds got grumpy and did not cooperate, the parrot did not raise the flag, did not close the window, I was wondering if the animals were being paid on-time with their TF, thus lazy to do their job (aww!)… if I were Pong Pagong I should get my check, LOL! But the pet handlers said sometimes it happens birds have their mood swings, hala!

I love their dancing staff, but I think the management should improve the show more, like more animals, more interactions.

Sharing some photos of the encounter,

Before the show, we arrived quite early

I forgot this parrot's name

clowning at the parking lot

My kids always look forward to going home since its ‘milk bar’ buying time, it’s a frozen delight made of pure cows milk that comes in durian and chocolate flavor, of course the mom has favorite too, and it’s this one, the Durian and the Chocolate Milk. These Dairy Best products are manufactured by Federation of Davao Dairy Farmers Cooperative. It’s a must try when you’re in Davao.

So there, that’s what happened on this side of town on weekend. Thanks for dropping by.

It’s the same blog guys, I’m just true to my blog’s slogan, I got bored with my previous theme so here, got a new one…. Been busy, very busy lately corel drawing, tweaking, winking this stuff….. Finally, I have it posted … I welcome your judgment … LOL! So, how do you like it?

Saturday

DOUBLE WOW!

It’s still too early to hunt for a Youtube link for tonight’s (May 22) episode of Pilipinas Got Talent since they’re airing live. Among those who were lucky to make it to the semi-finals is Davao City’s pride, The EZRA Band.

Hearing tonight’s rendition feels like traveling down memory lane, back to those dating days of mine… nyahahahahha. But seriously, their vocalist really can sing, their keyboardist rocks, another proof that a person’s disability is not a barrier to achieving great things in life. I have not seen them perform on stage here in Davao yet, but hope to see one when they will be back home.

But here’s their audition piece that wows the judges.

So without further much ado, let’s give it up to Davao’s pride, The EZRA band.

TRUST THE POWER OF YOUR MIND

I know for a fact that our minds reflects our habitual thoughts and actions, thus taking responsibility to influence our minds with positive thinking and emotions is I think and should everyone’s goal to achieve Mind Power.

I’m into some sort of mind downtime at this point, and I need to focus back, I need more than just a positive thinking, I need to think that what I believe shall by hook or by crook will manifest into reality.

So, give way, give way positive thinker coming through … yeah, my first step to achieving my goal, I’ll divulge it right at this blog at a right time.

MY MOST VISITED RESTO

Whenever I fall short of time cooking, I find refuge to my savior, this is our most visited grilled resto here in the city, Mang Manok, my savior, serves the yummiest grilled chicken in town, I love it here since my kids can freely roam around, it’s also a WI-FI area, and it’s a ‘halal’ restaurant, meaning our Muslim friends can order all the food they want without the anxiety of transgressing their religion. The breast part bbq is the best, so if you happen to visit Davao City, Mang Manok is a worthy visit. Their resto is located along Arellano St.

This photo was taken on one of the evenings we were there.

The tree silhouette is a Firetree that is in full bloom by day.

CELLPHONE DANGERS

I’m supposed to write something about the summer video craze around here, the Jutsus of Naruto when this email popped-out of my screen. Good heavens, I’ve been doing this all this time, and when I read this email, I made a promise to myself to break the habit. Call me lucky this terrible thing did not happen to me.

Cellphone, a thing some people can’t live without, (I prefer to live without one,) are just few of the most useful inventions of this period. This thing is supposed to make living comfortable and get connected at all times but what if it will turn out the other way around?

Here’s the story, take a look;

A few days ago, a person was recharging his mobile phone at home.

Just at that time a call came in and he answered it with the charging Instrument still connected to the outlet.
After a few seconds electricity flowed into the cell phone unrestrained and the young man was thrown to the floor with a heavy thud. As you can see, the phone actually exploded.

His parents rushed to the room only to find him unconscious, with a weak heartbeat and burnt fingers.
He was rushed to the nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

So there, although I have to verify this information yet, the sender is quoting The Surgical Services of the University of Miami Hospital. Thus, there might be some truth about this email.

But what is certain is to;
never use the cell phone while it is hooked to the electrical outlet! If you are charging the cell phone and a call comes in, unplug it from the charger and outlet.

Thanks for dropping by.

ABC WEDNESDAY … “R” is for red’s reflection resting and reading

I’m out of the dance floor for two weeks, rarely have blogged, rarely have opened by email, rarely have done things I used to do, symbolically out of the blogging dance floor. I’ve been a steady hop-on hop-off buddy of my two kids on their summer dance workshop. We’re almost done, thing is the recital fee is killing me, got to pay P1,950 for each of them for just a five-minute dance presentation. Jhine is killing me! I’m thinking of excluding them from the presentation, but the kids are protesting…. Waaah!…

So much for that, joining ABC Wednesday, a mom’s red Kork-Ease minus the pedicure, resting and reading while waiting, literally out of the dance floor. The kids workshop (the photo below) is at Metro Lifestyle Fitness Center Dance Studio, along Torres St., here in the city.

See more ABC Wednesday entries here.

Thanks dearies for dropping by.

I’M LOOKING FOR AN AIR BED

If you’re a constant of this blog, I wrote quite a number of posts of our boy’s room renovation project, at last it’s done and my boys are now enjoying their freedom in their new room. I’m also relieved of the seeing and picking up toy’s messing up around our bedroom.

They have been requesting a raised bed, but since the other boy is younger, I don’t want to take chances; they might fall off and hit their heads on the floor, so I really insisted of having the foam laid on the floor. But they keep on complaining it’s too low. I’m thinking of buying one that is raised yet versatile. I found this air bed that is raised off the floor I find it very trendy, handy and just exactly what I want.

I have tried using air mattress in the past and it really served its purpose. You can inflate and deflate it at your own convenience. You can even bring it around with you when you travel without the hassle of bulky bed packs or a handy bed reserve whenever you have visitors at home.

I’m seriously considering buying one. Wish there are available in stock at our local department store here.

I’M A MILLIONAIRE …

In my dreams LOL! …. I always receive emails of this kind from time to time … I’m almost tempted to give them the information they need, but on the other hand, I thought of I might lose my fortune than gaining a million.

I have no doubt this is a scam again, never disclose any private information or immediately get into the trap of these aliens should you receive mails like this;

This page was sent to you by: abdel_karim01@voila.fr
Message from sender:
Dear friend, I am Mr,Abdel Karim, manager auditing and accounting department Bank of Africa Ouagadougou Burkina Faso, I have an opportunity to transfer the sum of $10.5 million.USD to your bank account, contact me for more details about the transaction, thanks, abdel karim.

Ta-ta, got to think how I’m gonna spend the 10 million dollar fortune…. Thanks guys for dropping.

UPGRADE YOUR PHONE SYSTEM

How can a prominent bank forget to install an efficient phone system?

Yeah, just bear with me this time, just writing some reckless thoughts over a not so good first hour of the day transaction. I wonder why in this high technology age, there are still those who are hesitant, stingy to investing in a well-organized communication system.

Guys, just giving you a piece of my mind here, come-on, making it big in banking business is synonymous to having an efficient phone systems. Get rid of all those analogs and replace them with something that will make your client’s life easy

Geez, how can a simple inquiry turn into a ranting transaction, all because this bank’s telephone system is rotten. This is not supposed to be published here, but just looking for some cracks where I can air my days sentiments. Thanks for reading. See you again for another experience in this side of town.

MY WORDLESS THURSDAY ...

Who cares if I'm late this is my blog, making my own meme (LOL!).... oink, oink... in other words I have nothing to write ... writer's block? Nah! I'm not a writer; I’m a trying hard blogger and an out-of this-world boring photographer… Dang! Remember the year of the pig? We had lots of these China pig figurines, I got my eyes sored seeing them inside our house, so I vacated them sun-drenched in our garden.

Thanks for dropping by, see you again for another experience in this side of town.

SOME POST ELECTION RANTS

Waaaahhh! I woke up early to supposedly cast my vote, I just wasted a liter of gas, I can’t even get through the clustered list of voters posted on the school’s wall, sea of people, ranting over a non-functional PCOS machine. I thought of coming early but there were those who have woke up earlier than I do to cast their vote. So I decided to go home eat ‘bahaw’ and sleep again.

I’ve accomplished quite a number of mom’s chores, watched How to Train a Dragon, and made a ‘walang kamatayang yema,’ an all-time favorite of my kiddos, before heading to San Roque Elementary School. I’ve handed my carefully shaded ballot to the BEI exactly 6:45 PM, I was teased by the poll watchers that they just waited for me to vote before they close the precinct…. If I know they have to extend the voting time due to some technical delays. I have cast my vote on the last minute the poll closes minus the PCOS, I was just imagining how it look, as I dropped my ballot on a PCOS-less garbage bin-look alike ballot box, and had my point finger inked.

Now as I write this, listening to Aquino-bent ABS-CBN for the unofficial and partial results of the election, and hurting on the side, gee! My president is racing only on the fourth place …. And my vice-president, Dang!… Roxas’ campaign manager has been sleeping ‘sa pancitan’ too confident, you forgot you have Binay is a contender. So there, although disappointed to have not touched or seen an actual PCOS machine ….. Huh! Where have all the PCOS machines gone… ibalik na sa China! …. Puro daut!

WHAT IS SEO?

When I first started blogging, I was swamped with various questions on how to do this and that, and my only way is to cling to the hope that it’s never too late to learn, starting from scratch to where I am now, I am proud to say, I have done it via DIY (do-it-yourself) but with a considerable thank you to the people who have posted enormous information on the web that served as my guide.

And when everything has gotten into place, there’s nothing you can do but move to the next level, and one of the things that baffled me at first was the question, what is SEO? And why do I keep seeing all those three letter-word as an important fraction of blogging and internet related dealings and what seo company does?

SEO or search engine optimization is a procedure of driving traffic to your web site or blog via natural, organic or algorithmic searches, meaning the non-paid way of drawing traffic volume, in layman’s term, when you search via a search engines white tab, I call it that way, your site or your blog will appear on the first page and not on the tenth page or so, meaning your blog will have greater chance of drawing traffic. This is where seo company enter the scene as they help your blog get ranked in major search engines around this sphere. So if you want to get onto the first page of major search engines, you better optimize your site, some seo company require a sizable amount, some do it for free, time and patience should go together to spot these companies around here. Why not start searching.

GOD BLESS THE PHILIPPINES

To my fellow country wo/men we’re down to the last weekend on contemplating to decide on the fate of this nation that will change the course of history of this country.

While we were enfold with countless hullabaloo involving issues on automated elections, the eternal matters of cheating and fraud, skepticisms, whether or not this political activity will come out clean, credible, honest and peaceful, I am, in the name of strong faith and courage Filipinos will come out triumphant.

I ask myself sometimes, why do I need to come out and participate in this so-called rotten political activity of this society? I’m quick to act in response that this is what I can do to better this nation and this is what I can do to guard the democracy of this country.

I hope my choice will be that wise.

GOD BLESS THE PHILIPPINES!
