LIZZY IN MY NETTY

What if you wake up one day, still groggy and sleepy while at a snail's pace walking in through your bathroom you pick-up your shower net and you see this fella trapped, and struggling to let loose from the net?

Waahhhh! I felt like there’s tsunami coming….. yuckkkk, I lost all the strength I have for the day, the reason why I wasn’t able to update this blog early today. My husband said, you are too big to loose all your strength to this helpless fellow. Whatever! Take that outttt!

Anyway, I’m back to normal now and sharing this story with Camera Critters.

SECURE YOUR ASSETS BY PUTTING LABELS

In a world of too much and too many we always thought it right to identify what’s ours by putting markers and labels. And since we invested much of our efforts and resources in those properties or assets we find ways to secure those from theft and pilfering.

And one of the solutions companies like William Frick for instance is promoting is to secure those properties by putting asset tags. If you’re into business, you don’t want to be losing a lot financially into stealing and counterfeiting, thus protecting your brand identity down to labeling your company’s properties are the major priorities. They offer a wide variety of tagging products from personal down to industrial purposes. You can check out their site for inquiries.

MOM'S TREASURES

After dinner and after crying pose at Nanay Bebeng Restaurant. Angelo, the youngest in Cookie Monster won’t go home anymore, he asked the guard for a fishing rod, waaaahhh, when the guard said, those fishes are just meant for seeing and not for fishing he begun to cry. I let the older siblings do the explaining; luckily they managed to pacify their brother…. And ended up posing for a souvenir.

THANK GOD, IT’S NEGATIVE!

It’s been days I have not updated this blog, I gone crazy with my niece’s dengue scare, thank God the test results were negative according to the doctors. And we’re back to normal now, thanks also to Manang, our most requested ‘manghihilot’, that according to her findings the baby had just ‘panuhot’ and should refrain from going out at night, what can a baby do when the parents are ‘gimikero’ and ‘gimikera’, … lesson learned, having a baby is equal to sacrifice.

With this dengue scare looming around the corner it is important to know what to do in case you have or your baby have high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pains and rashes, having all these symptoms consult immediately your doctor.

In cases like this I’d rather be dubbed paranoid than feeling sorry in the end.

THE KEY TO ‘FIGHTING THE BITE’ IS AWARENESS AND PREVENTION
1. Vector control measures can also include broad application of insecticides.
2. Empty containers with stagnant water: flower pots, garbage cans, aquariums, unused swimming pools, tired and other mud and piles are potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
3. Cover water drums and water pails at all times to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.
4. Clean all water containers once a week. Scrub the side well to remove eggs of mosquitoes sticking to the sides.
5. Clean gutters of leaves and debris so that rain water will not collect as breeding places of mosquitoes.
6. Old tires used a roof support should be punctured or cut to avoid accumulation of water.
7. Collect and dispose all unusable tin cans, jars, bottles and other items that can collect and hold water.
8. Replace water in flower vases once a week.
9. Clean up your backyard. Mosquitoes love to stay in dark and damp areas.
10. Spray insecticide regularly to get rid of mosquitoes, cockroaches, flies and other insects. Make sure to spray dark corners, crevices and cabinets.
11. Wear pants, pajamas, long sleeves, and socks. Mosquitoes are attracted to our breath as we exhale so they know how to reach us even in the dark.
12. Use mosquito repellant lotions, but don’t use too thick or too much also, as the chemicals are too strong and might damage your child’s skin.

Thanks every one for dropping by on this side of town.

EVENINGS AT THE PARKING LOT

Yeah, this is one of my family's habits, we call it – Friday Picnic, every Friday night except for nights with prior engagements and weather is not cooperative, we’re a constant at McDonalds Drive Thru, 3 orders of large fries, 5 Caramel Sundaes, and head to our favorite area near a security outpost at Victoria Plaza Parking and grind stories of all sorts.

Don’t question a mom’s indulging her children to unhealthy foods, once a week it not bad, I believe so. Here are some wacky snaps at the car butt.

POKER HAS COME OF AGE

To be honest I’m just an ordinary mom making a home and tending my children and gambling is no way been part of my everyday life, but being this does not mean I’m a left out creature not having entered a Casino and have not witnessed people playing poker. Although most of my knowledge is bookish and movie based I so love ladies in elegant garb sitting in a poker table, you know the James Bond thing, pretty women in pretty nails picking cards.

But if you think this could only happen in the movies, my rare occasional and accidental trips to the Casino, or only for those guys riding in their shining, shimmering limo, think again, poker games has come of age, the internet provides PokerStars Download, known to be the oldest and the largest online poker rooms today you can download it and enjoy poker entertainment at the comfort of your homes, minus the elegant gown, and if you have done it so, don’t run into the table yet, there is more, PokerStars Bonus Code is another element to complete your online entertainment, once you have signed-up it’s time for real online leisure, you can now start unlocking your bonus.

But wait, if are looking for more? Full Tilt Poker Download is another software you can take pleasure in and now viewable in 21 different languages, which is a plus factor for international players. So if you want to try the thrill of online poker games, you can go ahead and start downloading now.

ALL IN A DAY’S WORK

It’s been a crazy day, glad I’m clicking back again. Apologies to my blogging friends, I’m getting back on track now. But really, I woke up 7 in the morning, cook breakfast, do the laundry, rushed to Ateneo grade school to borrow biography book, my son had forgotten to borrow one maybe because of too much excitement as it was their opening of intramurals last Friday, good thing the library was open.

I need to get back home for lunch and check on my kids. Had to leave again to go with my husband to meet his client, he needs a supah secretary, LOL! For the longest time I have been tagging along and meeting clients of my husband, I didn’t thought of getting myself a business card, although I know it is important. I might consider if it is free business cards. Well, who would have thought you can have all these over the internet, making one is just as easy as signing a closed deal.

At four, we went home and pick up the children for a 5 o’clock mass at Ateneo De Davao University chapel. Have dinner at Let’s Crab Eat and went home straight, face my laptop again, so there, it happen all in a day’s work.

The Ateneo de Davao University grounds just before the mass started, my son in red and my daughter in orange, my oldest son is the one on the bench.

ISSUES ON TECHNORATI

For the longest time I have been mum about this blog issue of mine at Technorati, I cannot remember anymore how many times I claimed this blog. I’m really no techie momma, I’m just ‘isang kahig, isang tuka’ when it comes to internet logic. But I can’t take it anymore, I did all the required steps how to claim a blog, but why is still my feeds not showing. I have written quite a number of love letters to their ‘Contact Us’ but poor me, I’ve been snob.

Does anybody here, who has experienced the same issue/problem as mine. How did you resolve it? Please help a drowning soul…. It would be much appreciated.

REMEMBERING MY FATHER …

… with this song, yeah I grew up hearing this song day in and day out. My father has quite a number of collections of long play records, ranging from Matt Monroe to Frank Sinatra down to Andy Williams and other contemporaries of these artists. This post made me actually think where did that big box go?

Photobucket Every morning my father would take that red spongy look-alike dust eraser and run it around the black area of the LP, carefully place the arm of the needle and sit at our patio read his papers and sip his coffee on that brown mug with Moon River as the background. During those days I kept lamenting why the ‘pauli-ulit yung plakang yun’, now I realized, it’s worth the ‘ulit, pala’ …. Dang! I missed those days …. Can I relive those, my son will tell me for sure, mom, I’m feeling lost with your music… can you just lock yourself in your room and listen it there? Shocks! I hate it … hate listening to the gaganess of lady gaga, Ok, I’ll accept it with tearful heart, as I realized he’s feeling the same as I felt before.

This one is a version at Breakfast at Tiffany’s … I so love Audrey Hepburn.

This one is what I’ve gone gaga about … ayyyyyy…. So romantic …… do I need to say more? Carlo and Vivian of Lovers in Paris.

This version is not quiet as moving as the original one, I can’t feel the emotion, the elation between KC and Piolo.

Enjoy! See you again peeps, for another round of Nostalgic Marveling at Roses’ blog.

FIND A TUTOR

Finally, after culling out my murky brain I remembered who, and not where, borrowed my missing book, harassed my husband to drive for me and headed to the borrowers house close to the middle of the night and successfully beat the three hour deadline of test questions submission and Walla! I’m back online.

But yesterday was really a day. Two of my students just dropped out, this pretty lady, the boys keep saying awww no more pretty girl, came to me sobbing saying she’s dropping out of school due to family problems. Another was this awesome guy, I call him that, coming in to class in gelled hair every single day, told me he’s dropping his Statistics class due to teacher problem. But when I talked to the concerned teacher apparently this student was just having some Statistics problems and need help.

I understand how this student feel, when I was in college then I also got a ‘have mercy grade’ on statistics, but come-on boy this is the twenty first century, you can have Statistics tutor even way at the other side of the world, getting Statistics help now is just as easy as 1 2 3. There are online tutorials like TutorVista for instance not only for statistics but for all subjects and they are available round the clock, and what is more amazing, they offer cheap and they provide demo for first time users.

So there that was how my day came to be yesterday, thanks for dropping by.

CARPENTERS HELP!

I’ve been chaotically busy the whole day cleaning top to bottom. I wonder why even we do periodic cleaning still dust particles accumulates under movable closets, especially at the hard to reach areas around the house.

Some times I’m thinking of pulling out these heavy cabinets and replace them with built-in wardrobes and built-in shelves, maybe one of these days. But while in the wait for that time I still have to look for some great designs around here, L.A. Gordon Carpentry has best solution to problems like mine, they also offer building services on bathroom and kitchen fittings, and everything about finishing touches inside your home. I just wish I have much now or I’ll have these things pulled out of the house immediately.

Call it a day, got to hit the hay.

WHAT A BRUTAL AND TRAGIC WAY TO END…

…. a soap opera. Yes, I watched last night’s Kung Tayoy Magkakalayo ending starred the infamous first sister and the country’s teen lovey-dovey Kim and Gerald, of course I know them? I read papers everyday from cover to cover, LOL! I’m no soap opera addict, I just watched once or twice a week to update myself, because when you are in a classroom you get your student’s attention well if you relate things with what’s in and up around you, in other words they can’t terrorize you back knowing teens now.

Wooah, since it’s the ending my son wanted to watch it, they’re not allowed to watch TV on weekdays, but since it’s the ending and t’was Friday, I could have allowed him but good thing he had a flu and Manang our manghihilot came to ‘hilot’ him just in time for the show to start, and I told him, I’ll just narrate to him what happened, otherwise, he will tell me again that he’s going to be a NBI agent so he can have a license to kill his cousin every time he picks a fight with him, thus, to doubt the power of media to influence young minds is an understatement.

The ending only shows what kind of society Philippines has, the producer of Brookside once said … “tell the truth and show society as it really is …” Soap operas are not just ‘chewing-gum for the eyes’, they’re injurious, corrupting and disturbing agents to thousands of people, yet they amass millions of money. To call it a mindless form of entertainment will rake countless issues and controversies, the production team will come to disagree with me on that.

Gone were the days where soap operas has been tagged as a form of escapism for mundane housewives left at home tending children and kneading dough for dinner. Today, critics, academic researchers are not looking at who are watching these shows anymore, but on the note that what makes these soap operas appealing? And some concluded that it is now on a level of social realism.

Watching Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo is not just watching Kris Aquino dying underground, Coco Martin firing Gerald unrealistically to the very end, nor seeing Gabby Conception a hero, its about seeing your society in a nutshell, a microcosm of our society.

So there, thanks everyone for dropping by on this side of town.

THOSE JACKSTONE DAYS

Photobucket

We attended a children’s party the other day and when we get home, I was surprised to see jackstones as one of the favors inside the loot bags. And I said ‘meron pa palang naglalaro nito ngayon?’

And then asked my son if he knows how to use it, he just shrugged his shoulder and said, Oh, that was during your time mom, indeed I have rich memories with this rubber ball and its spiked partners.

For those of my age, heheheh! You missed a lot in your childhood if you had not tried gripping these jacks on the ground. I can remember one time, my mom was very angry; the words were … ipakain ko sayo yang bola na yan! As I lost my school things until now I still can’t remember where did I left it as I was too carried away competing with my classmates. I was an athlete, sa larangan ng jackstone sa kapanahonan ko … hahahah!

My son listening keeps telling me, oh, that’s a boring game mom! So sad, children’s games now are too sedentary, no mind and body coordination as games are done virtually. So there ...

See you again next week for another Nostalgic Marveling at Roses'.

NOTHING MUCH

…. Is happening on this side of town, I’m running out of wits … chasing time, beating red lights … best described as …

Life’s Journey
by Patricia Parker

Life's journey takes you places
Where you've never been before.
You may miss opportunities
But find keys to many a door.
The journey may be dangerous
The rewards not readily seen.
But crossing treacherous waters
Will lead to calmer streams.
The trip takes courage, fortitude
And a will to welcome dawn.
Don't miss your chance to make it last
For soon your chance is gone.
One journey for one short-lived life
Is all the chance we're given
To make the most of any trip
We must adjust to living.
Enjoy each day, as it appears
The rain soon brings the sun.
And when your journey finally ends
Your job's been nobly done.

Thanks Patricia for this, but I think mine’s job has not been nobly done yet … and so the journey continues …..

THE SEXIEST BIRD ON EARTH

The sexiest bird on earth, in pee shorts, can be found here in Davao. Isn’t this birdie sexy, she got flawless, muscle toned legs, except for the pores… LOL!

My son had this photo when we went to Malagos Garden Resort here.

Some Facts about ostrich:
The Ostrich is the largest living bird in the world.
It is of the Ratite family, which means flightless bird.
The Ostrich is native to Africa, yet thrives in countries all over the world.
Adult males are eight to ten feet in height and weigh 350-400 pounds.
A male Ostrich is called a rooster and a female Ostrich is called a hen.
The male is black with white wing tips and tail plumes.
The female has light brown and grey plumage and is slightly smaller than the male.
This great bird has two toes, all other birds have three or four toes.
The Ostrich can run at speeds of up to 40 MPH for sustained times.
An Ostrich will live to be 50 - 75 years old.
Although an ostrich egg is the largest of all eggs, it is the smallest egg in relation to the size of the bird.
The Ostrich egg will weigh 1600 gm and is equivalent to 2 dozen chicken eggs.
An Ostrich Hen can lay 40 -100 eggs per year, averaging about 60 eggs per year.
Ostrich eggs hatch in 42 days.
An Ostrich chick grows one foot taller each month until it is 7-8 months old.
Females sit on eggs by day; males sit on eggs by night.
To soft boil a fresh egg would take one hour. To hard boil would take 1 1/2 hours.
Ostrich farming is a viable alternative agriculture industry, with fine quality leather, feathers and gourmet meat as the principal products.

LOST IN TRANSLATION?

One of the most integral parts of any culture is its language; humans I think cannot exist without it even the simplest of societies where people cannot read and write have their spoken language. Language enables us to communicate with others, design complex plans and projects and more so develop abstract ideas from it. It is said that there are estimated 8,000 languages around the world.

With these complexities, at times business and even personal transactions around the world get its lengthy route to come up with a desired result. Now, in the age where nothing is impossible, technology takes its course to handle all these problems, there are translation services that offers one-stop professional translation.

Translia brings to an end world language barrier problems, it offers language translation services with its pool of language expert at the highest quality possible with guaranteed satisfaction at the price you can afford. Lost in translation? Worry no more!

THOSE PENPAL DAYS

I was thinking of not writing an entry to this week’s Nostalgia, Dang! I’m so dazed with tons of depressing scenes around here. Accidentally, while looking for some things that could save my day I stumbled on this 27-year old letter. I was digging deep down my murky memory where this letter came from… and later figured it out that once our family has a penpal in Alberta, Canada. I was still in my late elementary years during that time. I remember we exchange packages, we send exotic items to their family in Alberta and they send us lots of things too, you know the px things before.

But I don’t know what happened communication just shut-off. My curiosity actually made me search them online but can’t find them, or I just didn’t search enough, anyway, They’re the Hufnagl, the father’s name was Alfred and they have two boys at that time, this letter has a return address of 349 Scot Haven, 52246 Rge, Rd 232, Sherwood Park, Alberta…. So for those who are living somewhere in that area, I won’t make some favors for you to check, but some kind of things letting you know … nyahahahah!

Anyway, with last week’s entry on the logging truck thing, some has been asking --- OK, OK, I was the one in curly Bob Marley kinda hair in retro horizontal, multicolored stripes dress. Ngeeee! Walang kokontra!

Thanks for dropping by see you again next week for another round of Nostalgic Marveling at Roses’.
