Confirmation at San Antonio Parish

Last week, my eldest son was confirmed as an adult member of the Catholic Church, the Confirmation Rights was held at the newly renovated San Antonio de Padua Parish Church in Agdao, Davao City. He had his aunt as his sponsor and we parents were just witness and phototakers at the side.

Confirmation is one of the seven sacraments through which Catholics pass in the process of their religious upbringing. According to Catholic doctrine, in this sacrament they receive the Holy Spirit and become adult members of the Catholic Church. (wikipedia)

Liea and Barbie - best buds ever

This post brought to you by Hills Pet Nutrition. All opinions are 100% mine.

See that dog? That’s Barbie - a mixed breed of Pomeranian and a native dog - she’s my daughter’s best bud ever but several months back we had her adopted by a close aunt who just live next door its because her pulmo doctor said to refrain from getting close to Barbie for a while to prevent contacting dander and saliva that in effect would lessen her asthma attacks, that event really had taken a toll on her, we can see her sneaking out bringing dog stuff to the other house - but that’s best solution we can think than bringing Barbie to the pet shop.

We had Barbie around the house for two years, those were crazy years – aside from my daily steam cleaning routine,  I have to deal with a lot of their mess around after all their chasing, their eating and their whining. But more than that is Barbie’s collection of overstated dog fashion and accessories. OK, though complaining sometimes, I’m also delighted to see a pretty dog walking in polka dots.

Taking care of dogs is a concealed responsibility for children not to mention nurturing the virtue of kindness and gentleness a reason why we had Barbie, she too was included in our family’s priority list. Her vet schedules, her food which until now is still fed on Hill's Pet Nutrition. Though she’s not a house pet anymore, My daughter still bond with her after class since she just live next door, but not sleeping with her anymore.

If you have a pet dog, I recommend you feed your buddy with Hill’s Pet Nutrition, it’s clinically proven to improve your pets mobility in just 30 days, with its scientifically formulated ingredients I’m sure your pets will get more out of their life, and quality is unquestioned as it is widely recommended by veterinarians worldwide.

Finally an update on this side of town, lol.

Gone busy wouldn't be my alibi this time, gone lazy would be ... I think I've having this so-called blogging burn-out - a reason why I kept myself away from this blog.. but I can't afford to be lazy when it comes to my kids' school activity.

My Star Scout had their celestial ceremony on Wednesday, ahhh,, my girl-Russel is starting to work on collecting all that 39 badges .. I think I also have lots of assignments to do.

Left to Right is ...
Prudence, my daughter's best friend, Angelo and Liea, my daughter.

HELLO KITTY SCRUBS

I’m a hundred and ninety nine pesos poorer today; I spent it to buy Cherokee scrubs for my daughter, Liea. She has been insisting to buy her a pair because she wanted to look like their aunt in scrub going to work.

I call it proximity influence, we’re surrounded by medical pros around here hence her desire to wore one. You might ask why the kid is so persistent, these Medical scrubs issued by the hospital where their aunt is working actually comes in Hello Kitty and Winnie the Pooh prints, the very reason why she wanted to be a nurse in due time. She hated nurses in whites maybe because her first painful needle experience was administered by ladies in whites. But when asked and approached by ladies in cartoon printed scrubs, she actually doesn’t show any hostile reaction.

Although this is not scientifically proven yet, I would assume that nurses who are into these styles of uniform are less intimidating to children. Resistance comes in less thus patient-nurse relation is very comfortable.

The Hello Kitty scrubs I scored looks so dainty on Liea, the fit was just right, but it’s on the washer right now, I’ll have it modeled once dried and permed.

GRADUATION 2011

My prep made it today; she’s officially a graduate of 2011, nyahaha.  This mom has gone dizzy roaming, throwing around, this lil lady over here marched to the stage at 8 this morning  and we’re up waiting until 11 to finish all those 200 something lil grads to receive their rolled papers, a.k.a diploma, the older brother had a solidarity night, gosh I fell asleep waiting … wasn’t able to blog hop..lol.

Sharing some snapshots during the graduation rites at the Martinez sports complex at Ateneo de Davao University, Matina Campus.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

The youngest monkey in our household celebrated his 3rd birthday yesterday, nothing fancy as it falls on a weekday and everybody had their share of a busy day. Shakey’s to the rescue- the eternally favored fried chicken, some pizzas, sodas and cakes, which Angelo’s Aunt/Godmother rolled into one had gifted him were at hand.

Thomas and Friends were there too, Oh, the cake I mean, and the tarpaulin which actually I was surprised when I saw it. Is this some sort of a  political campaign? It wasn’t from Jessops though, Oh, by the way if you wish to have your pictures made into posters, cards or anything of that sort you can always contract their service, but the poster was something that made Angelo’s day. Thanks Ninang Ayen!

So, that’s what has been on this side of town, thanks for dropping by.
monkeying with his sister-Liea
I told you Thomas and Friends were there only they were devoured by humans before the night ended.

DRESS UP GAMES

There’s actually no point comparing my childhood games with my children’s games today, I know for a fact we’ve live this part of our lives in a different space and time, truly from my perspective it has shifted from physical games to sedentary ones.

We used to build our own play house before, using the combination of brain, arms and leg work you have to wander around looking for some things to build up that play house. But now no matter how I tried to rationalize the idea of ‘you get out and run around’ instead of playing dress up games on the computer, seems like nobody’s around, the girl is into fashion games, Barbie games, bridal games, the boys are into psp, ds, they even bought this steering wheel that can be connected to the pc for their 'Need for Speed 'game. This is now the new face of fun, spending time changing clothes, changing look, why wouldn't you try, hmmmm, I wonder how Lady Gaga would look like in traditional Filipino Terno.

I think this phenomenon is inevitable, I just have to chew it.

Tata, thanks for dropping by on this side of town.

AUTUMN IN DAVAO

…akala nyo ha kayo lang sa dyan sa ‘higher latitudes’ kung baga ang me autumn….. hmmmmm… yan ang akala nyo…… meron din kami sa Davao… lol.

It was a national holiday yesterday, in honor of the ‘month of sacrifice’ of our Muslim brothers and sisters; we went out to meet a friend in Shrine Hills, on our way home the kids insisted on dropping by the Sto. Nino Shrine to lit candles.

Out of the blue, the eldest said, ‘so you just thought those guys living in the higher latitudes only experience autumn, huh!’ Look at that …. Ok son, I can’t exactly  agree I have no sense of comparison I have not experienced what it’s like on autumn. He replied and said, ‘its ok mom, looks like autumn is a sad feeling, the trees are dying.’

My readings suggested it so son,… indeed our surroundings affect of our behavior. So there, nothing much happened on this side of town.

MOM, WHAT IS LIFE INSURANCE?

…. A question my daughter thrown to me while piling her clothes on the closet. Why do you ask? It’s here in our book, I just want to know.

Well, life insurance is just a piece of paper that I buy from an insurance company, that when I die it will give you peace of mind. What? That is how important that piece of paper is? Actually, when someone Buy Life Insurance, it’s just a piece of paper that represents the benefits you will be getting just in case something uncalled for happens to me.

It represents an amount of money that it may not be enough till your lifetime, but at least it can be of help to your financial needs.

Ahh, really, so mom, how much will I be getting in case you will die? You bad egg, nothing! Ahh, talking to a six-year old can sometimes be stressful. Well, I might have gotten the meaning across and she understood it since she reacted that way.

Monday

THERE GOES MY BLOGGING MONEY

Yeah, I’m suppose to buy only, as in only new sheets, pillow cases and pillows the other night during the ‘til midnight sale’ happening on this side of town, but when we got to Victoria Department Store here, it did not turn out the way I thought it would. This acoustic guitar which we scheduled to buy by December yet, dropped its price tag by 30% and the sales assistant said this is the last of its kind.

My son said, mom I still can live with my old sheets, just this once. I have a soft heart you know …. Lol…so we have it tuned and lined to pay it up. So until next pay-out, ahahaha, Yeah right! I think I still can live with the old sheets too.

We have to buy this manual as he's still a beginner
This gadget awed me, I remember I would call my uncle to tune my brother's guitar before, but this one you just have to clip it on the head and adjust the knot.

EMAR’S WAVEPOOL DAVAO

Wavepool - it’s actually new to Davao, in fact it’s the first wavepool here. My kids just want to experience how it is to be in the muddled water, so we drove far south just to catch that experience. Call it fortunate but the weather did not cooperate it’s threatening to drop a river, but who cares, lol.

The place actually was good, especially at the bay side where you can have a wide picture of the endless sea, and if you’re lucky you get to see beautiful sun setting at Mt. Apo. They also have a nice, charming hotel by the sea, though no shore to walk-on, as they have reclaimed the shore area for the pool.

Here sharing some snapshots.

The pool at dusk
not minding the storm
the wave source, just wondering how this technology work,
it really made the pool area turn into an angry water, it's dangerous for small kids but teens, adults just so love to fight back this human-made nature ...lol.
soaking want to 'sawa'
charming cottages at the pool side
streaks of sunlight at dusk, its relaxing standing by the railing skywatching here.

READING DAVAO’S HISTORY

When we had our lunch at Jack’s Ridge Taklobo Restaurant sometime last week (see more story here), I told my son to read the writings on the wall …..

He's trying .... lol..!
Mom, I gave up. Can't figure it out ....

This is actually whats written on that wall, a packet of Davao’s history ….

"The land on which Jack’s ridge now stands once formed part of the headquarters of the retreating Japanese Forces towards the end of World War II. The Americans had landed in Davao on May 1, 1945, forcing the Japanese to beat a path to Matina Hills where they had a commanding view of the Davao Gulf where the American ships were anchored. Fierce fighting soon erupted between the two forces, and as history shown us, the Japanese lost.

Today, more than half century later, Jack’s Ridge is filled with reminders of its historic past. Caves dugs by the Japanese porkmark the area and once in a while people still find bullets and other war materials in the rocky soil. There is also a talk that hidden somewhere are gold bullions and other treasure that the Japanese had taken from other country and brought to Davao.

Whatever the truth about the treasure, Jack’s Ridge maintain the feature that made it an important outpost for the retreating Japanese forces, a commanding view of Davao City and the gulf the same view within the premises is also refreshing since the owner has made it a mission to preserve the natural beauty of the place.

Jack’s Ridge was built to offer a completely new experience to diners, and its not over yet, more developments are underway to make it the premier dining resort in Davao City. Indeed Jack’s Ridge is making its own mark in Davao City’s history."

THINK ORGANIC BRANDS

A friend of mine introduced this product to me several months ago, it’s an organic insect repellant lotion which keeps mosquitoes, flies and even ants away, this product has a special blend of premium-grade virgin coconut oil, citronella, lemongrass and eucalyptus essences. I’ve used it since then as a safest alternative to chemically-based insect repellant lotion that is commercially available. With this dengue virus carrying mosquitoes just around the corner I think every mom should think about the safety of their children.

I actually bought 10 bottles of these during the Mindanao Trade Expo here in Davao. But more than its potency as an insect repellant, I think the manufacturer should think more than the effectiveness of this product, if they want to compete with those that have positioned in the market, they should think about branding design, packaging and advertisement which I think obviously lacks.

I prefer this product more than any other insect repellant in the market; I anticipate the chance that they will be available on the grocery shelves soon.

DREAMING OF VANCOUVER

This family on this side of town has accomplished three fourths of its family project for this year; I’ve kept back a little from those spendings and hope to spend it at the end of the year for some travel adventures as what we usually do. We hacked traveling from our family schedule this year since we spent quiet a sum for our boys room renovation last summer, but I’m determined we need to get out of here and go someplace fun and awesome.

First thought was Vancouver, but seeing our finances seems like two of my family members has to sacrifice and stay, but I was met with protests from my kids they don’t want the youngest to be left out, so we need to execute Plan B and that is local traveling. Need to figure out in this next two months, where in this country.

Anyway, just sharing some thoughts, if you also wish to travel to Vancouver there is this Trent Jordan Vancouver that can help you tour around, they’ve been in this business for quiet sometime and has intense knowledge of the ins and outs of Vancouver, the where, the what, the why, the how and the when can immediately be answered if you’ll contract their service.

Tata, thanks for dropping by on this side of town.

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY .......

.... for those who run out of wits ... like me, lol.

As youngsters they may seem like arch enemies at times, but as they grow older the ties that bind become as strong as the love between them. Siya Nawa!

ON TWILIGHT GADGETS

I swear, my son is a Twilight saga addict, I can’t believe he’s in love with Bella Swan, lol … he kept bugging me to score him twilight gadgets, I think this one is more masculine than a necklace. It’s Edward's Cullen Crest Symbol Leather Wrist Cuff, I love it too. It’s $8.12 and I’m so happy as shipping is free.

OK, so I’m gonna give it a go. This deal isn’t free; he has to score high in the next long test to get it from me.

Are you a Twilight fan too? You better get yourself a souvenir.

Tuesday

YOU CAN’T STOP THE BEAT!

For those who are religiously reading my blog, if there is any (LOL) I have been into a mom’s panic world because of the preparation for my son’s dance recital, I was feeling like they would perform on Oscar’s that the mother is the one panicking preparing here and there, when I was not the one practicing… Jocks!

Anyway, after all those butterflies in my stomach, finally the recital was held on May 31st at Davao Trade and Convention Center. There are 67 recitalists in the afternoon batch and imagine they have to perform one by one. I was talking to Jhine’s executive Director, why the individual performance when it is just OK to perform as a group, but some parents insisted that their child should perform individually. Ok, no questions ask. My son was so excited he ate early lunch 10AM when the call time is still at 12. If we were worms and If there birds at the venue, then we could have been eaten first… minutes later, their dance teachers arrived, but we cannot enter the venue because the morning batch recital was still wrapping up, so they did the initial blocking at the lobby.

Imagine the program proper started at 2, Lean (my son’s name) was already complaining …. Mom I can devour a whole elephant, yeah, so I have to bring him to nearest resto outside of the convention center. I told him to chew his food and not just swallow it whole because he’s in a hurry. When I get back to the table from the powder room, my heart skip out of my mouth again, I have to ask the waiters where my son has gone, when he’s not on the table anymore. Out of excitement he headed out of the resto and waited outside.

Their dance number is at 37th so we have to watch 1 to 36th before they can get on stage.... waaaaaaaah, glad there were restless moms too waiting so I have chatmates, so now the 37th recitalists……

My apologies for this video since, no cameras and videos allowed in front as there’s an official videograher and photographer, so I slip near the kitchen entrance just to take this vid, apologies for the waiters’ heads. I still don’t know when is the official Recital DVD is coming out, no notice yet. So here…. (the one in black jacket at your left is my son, Lean). Thanks for watching!
